a Summary of the Paper I Read

      Over the last two weeks, I have read a paper related to the topic—Gestures authentication and mobile security.

      Exploring the Design Space of Graphical Passwords on Smartphones

     This paper introduced the authors’ research on graphical authentication mechanisms. For that, they discuss three important points of Graphical Password:

l  Password Characteristics

1)         Security

2)         Usability:

l  Design Features

1)         Cognitive mechanism

2)         Information display

l  Smartphone Capabilities

1)         Input and output capabilities

2)         Context of use

3)         Device-related user constraints

 

  This paper also introduced several typical graphical password schemes:

l  Pass-Go

The user can either draw dots on intersection points of the grid or connect intersection points with strokes. Points and lines have to be drawn in the right order to authenticate successfully.

l  UYI

The login screen displays 9 images randomly positioned in a 3×3 grid. The user must recognize and select a key image amongst decoy images.

l  TAPI

The login screen displays a 4×4 grid of icons. Each icon is divided into four parts to enhance shoulder sur?ng resistance. The user has to recognize the key icon and select the correct part (cued-recall).

l  CCP

A CCP password consists of a sequence of click points on different images (?ve in the original proposal), with one click point per image. The position of a click point determines the subsequent image to provide implicit feedback about wrongly selected points (an unexpected image is shown).

l  MIBA

The login process is based on CCP, the image sequence is determined by the position of click points and provides implicit feedback.

During the process I read the absolute english papers, I feel it hard to figure out every single point it conveys. The reason maybe that I am not able to understand some acdemic terms.Above all, my knowlege related to my major is too poor. To improve that, I am suppose to learn more about terms and read more books and papers.
