1. 关系代词三大难点

A． 关系代词

B． 三大难点

a. 介词+关系代词

介词+关系代词构成介宾时，只能用介+which或介+ whom

不能用介+ that/who

? -He is the man

? on whom I can depend. (书面语更好)

? -The world in which

? we live is make up of

? worries.

b. 常用that

先行词被any, only, all, every, no, some, much, little, 序数词，最高级，the only修饰

? -The only thing that I can

? do is waiting.

c. 省略that

关系代词在从句中作宾语可以省略，作主语时不可以

2. 关系副词

定语从句——关系副词

When, where, how, why…

在从句中作状语

a. 先行词是表地点的名词

关系副词用where

? -Beijing is the place

? where (in which) I

? was born.

b. 先行词是时间n.，关系副词用when

c. 先行词是reason，关系副词用why

This is the day when I first met her.

This is the reason why he refused my help.

d. 先行词way，用how，且常省略

Could you tell me the

way (how) I get to the

way-out?

3. 非限定性定语从句

A. 限定性定语从句V.S 非限定性定语从句

前者无逗号，更像定语

后者有逗号，更像补语

加逗号目的，逗号-在于可以提供一个停顿，加停顿的目的在于定语从句和前面的被修饰词or先行词关系不是特别紧密。

B. 非限定性定语从句

a. 从句与先行词之间关系松散

b. 从句删除，先行词不受影响

Sam has two dogs,

who are both hush

puppies.

Christina likes cooking,

which I am glad to hear.

There was on man

who taught us to

fight.
