slash (/) 的用法

看资料时遇到Bayes/MDL和Finite State Machine w/ Data Path. w/是with的缩写，找到出处了。我曾以为/MDL是Model的缩写，多搜了一会发现应该是Minimum Description Length的缩写。

The slash ( / ), also known as the virgule, has several uses, most of which should be avoided in formal writing. Never use a backslash ( \\ ) in place of a slash.

• Meaning and
  • He is enrolling in the JD/MBA program at Harvard.
• Meaning or
  • Each guest must present his/her ticket prior to entry.
• In place of "combined with," "also used as," "along with being."
  • He worked in his office/dining room.
• Abbreviations
  • w/ (with) c/o (care of) ...
• Fractions:  to separate the numerator from the denominator
• Conflict or connection
  • The Paris/London train leaves in an hour.
• Two-year spans
  • Everyone is still talking about the 1995/96 winter windstorm.

正式的论文里用/行不行？

1. stackoverflow有人说程序员既不写语法书，也不在乎语法书。:-)
2. 用了Bayes/MDL的论文得过The ICCV Helmholtz Prize.
