On August 8, Guangdong Province’s Department of Health reported that so far in 2017 74,872 influenza cases and 3 deaths have been recorded in Guangdong (up to and including August 6). Compared to the same period in 2016 (which reported 73,939 influenza cases and 8 deaths), the number of recorded cases has increased by 1.26%, but deaths have decreased by 62.5%.
Experts assert that the trends evident in the seasonal flu epidemic experienced in 2017 is comparable to the same period in previous years; March to July is the peak; but now the flu season is nearing its end in Guangdong and number of cases are predicted to continue to decline throughout August. At present, the epidemic is under control in Guangdong, and therefore there is no need to panic.
