Focus on “digital thinking”

In the all-data digital age, as head of corporate data operations, Liu Jingjing has worked with top decision-makers at home and abroad to develop strategies and tactics, prepared project feasibility reports, and created the closed-loop cycle of continuous outputs of data collection, product, operations and feedback, forming the core of data operations.

During this process, Liu Jingjing has maintained consistent focus and in-depth thinking on big data based on business needs, in particular in terms of new retail and some related technical issues, including the possibility of enormous value creation, which has driven Jingjing to turn her research focus onto "data thinking".

Jingjing explained, "My research stems from not only more than a decade of experience in the traditional retail industry, but also the growing pain caused by technological and social changes as well as the forecast and insights of d productivity, production relations and production factors in the future.”

Even though the era of “ultra-flexible production”, which will provide all products and services, has not yet arrived, the digital revolution in progress is impacting all walks of life around the world and constantly disturbing traditional business models. In Jingjing's view, data thinking is more than simply defining "business problems" as "analytical problems". It is also a key transitional scenario to the next era, with the market value and potential beyond imagination.

Taking the “Internet thinking” at the beginning of the Internet era as an example, Jingjing believes that if companies now start to transform into “data thinking” and have the courage to remodel themselves, so that the entire processes, from production to practice and including supply chain, can adapt to the development and change of the intelligent era, they will easily gain market initiative at the next trend. However, if they remain unchanged, they will definitely encounter great challenges in the future. "

Although Jingjing said humbly, "I am just extracting the common parts for research", she still hopes to help the traditional retail industry through data thinking and create greater value in the supply chain management process through her research and thinking. At the same time, it will also provide theoretical support for business models and profitability methods to help companies transition into the data era.

Jingjing admitted that she returned to the campus more than ten years after her graduation, mainly for two considerations.

 

First of all, she is highly interested in management. She loved to read Management by Robbins since her junior high school. Her goal during her undergraduate years was to enroll an MBA program. Later, although she was accidentally admitted to a postgraduate program of International Law, Jingjing obtained the highest scores in management subjects. After she stepped into her career life, most of the project partners had doctoral degrees or above. Therefore, taking a doctoral program became a necessity for Jingjing.

 

More importantly, although the career journey is still smooth, Jingjing is keenly aware that her systematic thinking has begun to follow the inertia into the "comfort zone".

According to her, "I feel like I'm in a bottleneck of thinking. Since I have created a highly stubborn or solid way of thinking, I am also used to doing business based on the empirical 'business perspective' at work. And this solid way of thinking is definitely unfavorable to my personal growth. Therefore, I urgently need to learn from emlyon DBA Program and get rid of the dependence of the past and completely remodel myself. "

 

After the plan to take a doctoral program was put on the agenda, Jingjing devoted a lot of time and efforts to research the doctoral enrollment brochures of major universities in China. From "resolving problems in a timely manner by the explosive power of her inner universe",  to "dealing with every day and everything with the ‘marathon’ mindset", Jingjing concluded, "I will make some effort to keep things moving on every day, no matter how little it is. And now I am more focused on empowering the team and more willing to believe in the power of dripping through stones. "

 

Also thanks to her long-term focus and accumulation, Jingjing not only often wins the first place in the "Reading Check-in" activity in the class, but also has the best study habits and reading volume among her classmates. After carefully reading the literature referred by academic supervisors and Program Director, she has found a lot of potential business value in the articles, broadened her horizons and ideas, and more efficiently identified the long-term work plan and research focus of this year, completed by a deeper understanding of emlyon DBA Program.
