CMA CGM offers cutting-edge long distance fruit transport solution
FRENCH shipping group CMA CGM has launched CLIMACTIVE, a technologically advanced solution for transporting highly sensitive fruits and vegetables in an actively controlled atmosphere. It made the announcement at the Asia Fruit Logistical fair in Hong Kong.
CLIMACTIVE maintains the freshness of sensitive commodities through to final destination by quickly reducing oxygen levels inside containers equipped with DAIKIN Active CA.
CLIMACTIVE has been especially designed for commodities that require special handling and care due to their biological composition and maturation time. The solution primarily targets high value-added products, organic produce and perishables transported over long distances.
This technology allows businesses to optimise their competitive attractiveness by maintaining the products' freshness up to final destination, preventing the maturation process, extending their shelf life and preserving the products' quality attributes.
It also allows businesses to target news markets by extending their reach to destinations that are farther field.
CLIMACTIVE enables the optimal level of oxygen and carbon dioxide to be reached much faster than other solutions on the market. A nitrogen pump creates a barrier against oxygen infiltration, protecting the cargo from excessive ripening. Temperature, humidity and the balance between gases are also precisely regulated, allowing optimal preservation and protection of highly sensitive commodities.
The CMA CGM Group is the second largest refrigerated container carrier in the world. Thanks to its fleet of 385,000 reefer containers and 288,000 reefer plugs, the shipping line offers transport solutions for all sensitive cargo requiring refrigerated transportation through its network of experts in 160 countries.
"Following the launch of the REEFLEX innovation, CMA CGM continues upgrading its reefer range to better meet customers' needs and acquire new markets. By introducing CLIMACTIVE, an additional technology is now available for the most sensitive commodities in CMA CGM's Controlled Atmosphere offer," said vice-president, specialised products and value-added services, Eric Legros.
"CMA CGM testifies again the importance of customer centricity and its ability to remain equipped with the latest innovative technologies.".
