5 Things: Adja Sy of Lalu and Spring Bazaar ["春日市集"创立者：Adja Sy]

An Urban Family series where we ask a Shanghai-based somebody to tell us 5 Things specific to his or her life.

Ahead of this weekend’s Spring Bazaar at Lost Heaven Silk Road, we speak with event organizer Adja Sy, who is also the founder of Lalu and NÜBIAN. She tells us her cultural background, African style and what to expect at the food and craft market.

1. "Spring Bazaar is inseparable from my Senegalese and French background."

After I founded my skincare brand Lalu and developed an African-inspired accessory and clothing line NÜBIAN, I started to connect young entrepreneurs like myself and we created a support community called “Made in Shanghai.” This is the second edition of the Spring Bazaar, and I am super excited and nervous. [When spring arrives] in France… it is the time to get rid of our old things, dust the cobwebs and renew our wardrobes, so the idea of [this weekend’s event] was derived from this tradition. It will be a go-to place where people can feel renewal and get a new start!

2. "I keep up with my Senegalese vibe like a pro."

Helping each other within the community in Shanghai is a great way to maintain my cultural vibe since being helpful is in our Senegalese DNA. In addition to that, my traditions lie in my style. I love our cultural fashion and I wear it with pride. My clothes and accessories draw from great influences in Africa. They are colorful, fun and are a statement; it reminds me who I am. All my products are all deeply rooted in my culture. The reason that I created NÜBIAN is to showcase our artisan work, our beautiful fabrics and so much more.

3. “Boredom and dullness is never an option for us!”

I am excited about everything in the event! We invested an incredible amount of time and effort in order to put the best quality products and the sweetest deals from the sellers on the table. I am drooling just thinking of all the food I will be trying. What can I say, I am obsessed with food!

Another highlight of the weekend and the Spring Bazaar is that Lizzy's All Natural will be celebrating their second anniversary. For the occasion, the team is having a FEVER Boot Campon Saturday and a FEVER Vinyasa on Sunday. Boredom and dullness is never an option for us!

4. "How about some martial arts for family fun?"

I believe our martial arts section will be great family fun for parents and children. On Saturday May 13 from 11.30-1.00pm, we will have Warzone teaching Brazilian jujitsu/self defense. The class will start with 30 minutes of flow movement ground activities followed by basic techniques and drills. To follow this we will have WeBox coaches from 1.30-2.30pm. The class will begin with a warm up, boxing techniques and some fat burning activities. These classes will keep both parents and children on their toes whilst sweating it out for a good cause, Hopsy Kenya. Finally, you can finish the day with a post-workout acai bowl by Berry N Bowl.

5. "Kudos to these female organizers!"

Shanghai Center, Common Rare and KTGA are my favorite markets and fairs in Shanghai. The team behind those events are fantastic, hardworking people and they care about quality products and promoting their sellers. I admire them because it is not an easy task to put together markets and pop-ups, so kudos to these female organizers!

在这个周末的春日市集开始前，我们采访了Lalu和NÜBIAN的品牌创立者——Adja Sy，同时她也是本次活动的组织者。她向我们介绍了自己的文化背景和她的非洲时尚风格，以及自己对这个激动人心的食物和手工制品市场的亮点。

1. “春日市集"与我的塞内加尔和法国血统密不可分

在我创立了自己的护肤品牌“Lalu”，开发了一条具有非洲特色的配饰和服装产业链“NÜBIAN”之后，我开始召集身边年轻的创业者们一起建立了一个互助社区——Made in Shanghai。今年是第二届“春日市集”，我感到既兴奋又紧张。按照法国人的习惯，每到春天来临的时候，大家都会处理掉旧东西、掸掉房子里的蜘蛛网、给衣柜换新。这个传统给了我创立“春日市集”的灵感，在市集人们会感受到一个崭新的开始！

 

2. 传承塞内加尔传统

互帮互助的传统早就在我们塞内加尔人身上根深蒂固，上海的互助社区能够很好地传承我的文化氛围。除此之外，我的穿衣风格也体现了我的国家传统。我很喜欢我们的时尚文化，并且将它自豪地穿着在身上。我的衣服和配饰很大程度上受了非洲文化的影响，五颜六色，奇异有趣。它时刻提醒着我自己的身份。所有的产品也都来源于我的文化。我创立NÜBIAN的初衷就是展现我们国家工匠手艺的精巧，美丽的布料，等等其他很多东西。

3. 对于枯燥无聊，我们是拒绝的

我对活动中的每一个细节充满兴奋。我们投入大量时间和精力来确定活动上的产品保质保量、卖家间的交易进展顺利。我是一个十足的吃货，光是想到可能尝到哪些食物就足以让我流口水了。

这周末春日市集的另一个亮点是“Lizzy’s All Natural”两周年了。所以在周六和周日，他们将分别举行"FEVER.野营"和“FEVER.流瑜伽”等活动来庆祝。对于拒绝枯燥无聊，我们是拒绝的。

4. 如何将武术运动与亲子活动结合起来？

我认为我们的武术环节对家长和孩子都十分有吸引力。周六（5月13日）上午11点30分至下午1点，Warzone将教授我们巴西柔术及防身术。课程将从30分钟基本的协调热身活动开始，然后进行基本技巧学习和模拟演练。这之后，下午1点30分至2点30分有We Box教练教授拳击，其中包括暖身运动、拳击技巧和一些燃脂活动。这两个课程绝对会让家长和孩子挥汗之后精神抖擞。最后，你可以享用Berry N Bowl提供的高颜值健身餐Acai Bowl来结束一天的锻炼。

5. 向女性组织者们致敬

我非常欣赏上海商城、凡几Common Rare、KTGA这几个市集活动。可以看出背后的策划团队都非常棒，非常努力。他们注重产品的质量、注重推广他们的卖家。我非常欣赏他们是因为把市场和短期潮店结合起来非常不容易，所以我真心敬仰这些女性组织者们。
