“省一分钱就是赚一分钱。”这句话是说节俭和一个人在生活中的勤劳一样重要。节俭，简单的说，就是一个人生活节约所养成的一种习惯。

adj.

providing good service or value in relation to the amount of time or money spent 经济的；实惠的

(1) It would be more economical to buy the bigger size. 

买尺寸大点的更实惠。

(2) It is more economical to wash a full load. 

满缸洗衣更经济。

 

using no more of sth than is necessary 节俭的；节约的；简洁的

(1) He has to be economical, because he hasn't much money. 

他非得节俭不可，因为他没多少钱。

2. frugal /ˈfru:gl/ adj. 节俭的；朴素的  

adj. using only as much money or food as is necessary （对金钱、食物等）节约的，节俭的

(2) We're planning a frugal Christmas. 

我们正计划过一个花钱少的圣诞节。

 

3. profitable /ˈprɒfɪtəbl/ adj. 有益的；有利可图的  

adj.

that makes or is likely to make money 有利润的；赢利的

(1) Growing grapes for wine became very profitable.

种植葡萄生产葡萄酒变得非常有利可图。

(2) It is usually more profitable to sell direct to the public. 

向社会大众直销往往获利较高。

4. safeguard /ˈseɪfgɑ:d/ v. 保护；防卫  

verb (formal) to protect sth/sb from loss, harm or damage; to keep sth/sb safe 保护；保障；捍卫

(1) We must safeguard our national interests.

我们必须保卫国家的利益。

(2) The leaflet explains how to safeguard against dangers in the home.

小册子告诉人们在家里如何防备各种危险。

5. extravagance /ɪkˈstrævəgəns/ n. 奢侈；铺张

6. utterly /'ʌtəli/ adv. 完全地；彻底地  

adv. in an utter manner; completely; absolutely

(1) We're so utterly different from each other.

我们之间有着天壤之别。

(2) She utterly failed to convince them.

她根本没有说服他们。

 

7. frugality /frʊ'ɡæləti/ n. 节俭；俭省  

noun prudence in avoiding waste节俭；俭省

We should cultivate the good habits of diligence and frugality. 

我们要养成勤俭节约的好风气。

 

8. crime /kraɪm/ n. 犯罪；罪行

9. go astray 误入歧途

to go in the wrong direction or to have the wrongresult 走错方向；误入歧途

(1) Fortunately the gunman's shots went astray. 

幸好持枪歹徒把子弹打偏了。

(2) Jack's parents thought the other boys might lead him astray (= make him do things that are wrong) .

杰克的父母认为，其他的男孩可能会把他引入歧途。

 

10. astray /əˈstreɪ/ adv. 迷途地

adv. away from the right path or direction迷途地

(1) We missed the track and went astray. 

我们走错了道，迷路了。

(2) Don't worry, I won't lead you astray. 

别担心，我不会引你走歪路的。

(3) The attractions of the big city soon led him astray. 

大城市的诱惑很快把他引上邪路.
