大家好，我是Maggie！今天我来讲讲上周在美国发生的日食。日食在英文里叫做Solar eclipse，日全食就叫做 Total Solar Eclipse。

Solar Eclipse happens when the moon moves between the sun and earth, blocking the light of the sun. If the sun is completely covered by the moon, the sky goes dark. This is called total solar eclipse of the sun.

当月亮移动到太阳和地球之间就会发生日食。如果太阳完全被月亮遮挡住了，天就变黑了。这就是太阳的日全食。

On August 21th, 2017, our school area has experienced a near-total eclipse between 2:35 and 2:40 in the afternoon. The last solar eclipse occurred coast-to-coast in USA was 99 years ago. How lucky we were to see it! All schools in this area have arranged students to view the solar eclipse at school time.

2017年8月21日，我们学校所在的区域在下午2:35到2:40之间会接近日全食。上一次跨越东西海岸发生在美国是99年以前。我们能够看到它是有多幸运啊！这个区域的所有学校都安排学生在上学期间观看日食。

 这次的日全食也不是美国每个地方都能看到哦，大家可以看这个图，东西海岸这条线上才能看到真正的日全食哦。

However, since we can only see 97% of the solar eclipse in our area, the sky would not become dark. In order to see the total solar eclipse, my Dad and Mom took us out of school and drove 3 hours north to a city called Clayton in Georgia. We arrived there at noon, had a fun picnic lunch and then waited for the exciting moment.

但是，我们所在的区域只能看到日食的97%，天不会变黑。为了能看到日全食，我的爸爸妈妈带我们离开学校，向北开车3个小时到了佐治亚州一个叫做Clayton的城市。我们中午到达，午饭吃了很好吃的野餐，然后就等待激动人心的时刻到来。

 Maggie爸爸特别重视这次难得的天文奇观， 给Maggie请了假带全家出动！

Our school has instructed us all the safety issues. I told them to my parents. Now let me show you all the rules. First of all, this is also the most important part. YOU CANNOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITH NO GLASSES. These glasses were specially designed to view solar eclipse. Don’t touch the lenses, and treat them just like you treat the real glasses. You first look down, put them on, and then you can look up to the sky. You can look at the sun now but you still cannot stare at the sun for over 10 seconds because it will blind you.

 我们学校已经教了所有的安全事项。我告诉了我的家长。现在让我来告诉你所有的规则吧！首先，这也是最重要的部分，不带眼镜就不能看日食。这些眼镜是专门为观看日食设计的。不要触摸镜片，要像对待真的玻璃那样对待它。首先往下看，戴上它，然后你才可以看向天空。你现在可以看太阳但是盯着太阳不要超过10秒，因为他们会损伤你的眼睛。

必须要佩戴专业的眼镜哦！

At around 1:07, the moon started to cross the sun. It looked as if someone has taken a bite out of the sun. The bite slowly got bigger.

大概1:07，月亮开始穿越太阳。看起来就像是太阳被咬了一口一样。而且被咬的部分慢慢在变大。

At around 2:35, the sun was completely covered by the moon. The sky went really dark. We saw the total eclipse of the sun! It was amazing. It looked almost like the sun but it was just grey. We saw the outer layer of sun very clearly. It is called the sun’s corona. When the moon continued to move, the first ray of light shined through.

大概2:35，太阳完全被月亮遮挡住了！天真的变得很黑。我们看到了太阳的日全食！真的很神奇。看起来还是很像太阳，但是是灰色的。我们很清楚地看到了太阳的外层，也就是太阳的日冕。当月亮继续移动，太阳的第一束光线就闪耀而出了。

It looked like the sparkle of a diamond ring in the sky! That was so beautiful! Everyone clapped and cheered. We took tons of pictures. Wait a second, smart people, I have a question. Have you seen the eclipse in China? If you have, that would be awesome!

就像是天空中悬挂着的钻石项圈迸射出的闪亮的火花！非常漂亮！大家都鼓掌欢呼。我们照了海量的照片。等一下，聪明的大家，我有个问题，你们在中国有看过日食吗? 如果你也有看过，那就真的太好了！

原来日食这么美！Maggie描述的太形象了！

When we came back, there was a long traffic line. It took us 6 hours to get home. But it was worthwhile. I would do it again if I have another chance. Dear Solar eclipse, see you in 100 years!

我们返回的时候, 路上堵了很久, 花了6个小时才到家, 但这一切都是值得的。如果还有机会，我一定还去看。亲爱的日食，100年后再见！
